Introduction

Bangladesh is the second-largest exporter of readymade garments (RMG) with the largest number of green RMG factories in the world. The sector accounts for about 85% of total exports last year (2018-19) and 11.2% of total GDP which has a huge impact on its socio-economic development, which is ultimately considered as the main driver of sustainable development. Green garment industrialization is a bold demand of various stakeholders as well as a worthwhile initiative to achieve sustainable industrial progress though it invests heavily in fixed costs and technical improvements that could challenge factories from both internal and external competition.
