Rayon fabric

Rayon fabric is a semi-synthetic cellulosic fiber fabric that is used in everything from garment making to bedding to tire cords. It is made from natural materials, undergoes intense chemical processing, it acts as a manufactured fiber. It is produced after dissolving cellulose then this solution is re-converted to non-soluble fibrous cellulose. Various processes have been created for this regeneration. Basically, the methods are the cuprammonium method, viscose method, and lyocell process. In particular, the previous two methods have been practiced for over a century.

The fibers are easily dyed in a wide range of colors and get various shades. Rayon fabrics are soft, smooth, cool, comfortable, and highly absorbent but they do not always heat the body and make them ideal for use in hot and humid weather, although their hand feels cool and sometimes almost smooth to the touch. Rayon fibers are naturally brighter, but the addition of confusing pigments reduces this natural brightness.

Different types of rayon produced by the modal and tensile Lenzing AG are used. Tencel, the generic name lysozyme, is made by a slightly different solvent recovery process and is considered by the US FTC as a separate fiber. Tencel-like lyocell was first produced commercially by the Courtaulds' Grimsby plant in England. The process of dissolving cellulose without chemical reactions was developed by Courtaulds' Research.

Rayon's production process is very toxic. The production process emits toxic gases. The chemicals used during rayon production contaminate drinking water, air, and soil, harming the ecology, plant, and animal health. Large amounts of water are contaminated during the production of viscose and rayon fiber. Textile manufacturers use dangerously toxic chemicals and methods to make rayon materials.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of garments available in the market that are made using Rayon. Cheaply produced garments are often used as a very large part of rayon primary fiber material or fiber blends. Synthetic and man-made fibers are available at a relatively low cost compared to natural fibers. Rayon is one of the cheapest fibers among the whole man-made fiber.

Clothing made with rayon is usually substandard and harmful. These are not very durable and change their shape and color over time. The fibers break easily when washed. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking rain is a natural organic fiber. The main material used for its production is wood pulp cellulose. Yet Rayon has some aspects that are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Most rayon production processes are bad for the environment. It also takes time to decompose, especially as it increases the number of microfibers in our oceans every day. Its production process involves many hazardous chemicals. Wearing rayon too often is extremely toxic and harmful to our skin, body, and health. It is not the most durable fabric. This is not the best choice of clothing material for you.
